John Hynes signed a multiyear contract with the Minnesota Wild on Tuesday. Terms of the new deal, which begins next season, were not released.

The 51-year-old, has been Wild coach since Nov. 27, 2023, and was entering the final season of his contract.

"John's done a fabulous job with our team," Wild general manager Bill Guerin said. "The work that him and the assistant coaches have done over the last couple years, to me I see firsthand day in and day out the work that he puts into it.

And the commitment that he has to the Minnesota Wild and the results.

"We've gotten better every year. We’ve built every year.

It's no secret, I’m a big believer in John and the way he operates and what he does. And now we’re in a position where we feel we can win.

A lot of that is because of the job that he's done.

Minnesota was 39-34-9 (87 points) in Hynes' first season and did not qualify for the playoffs. The Wild then went 45-30-7 (97 points) in 2024-25 and 46-24-12 (104 points) last season.

In his three seasons with Minnesota, Hynes is 125-78-24 and has guided it to the Stanley Cup Playoffs twice, including its first series win last season since 2015. He is 7-10 in the postseason with the Wild.

"It's an honor to coach these guys, like I always talk about," Hynes said. ".

And coaching the team with the type of players that we have, they're really talented, hungry guys. Coachable, good relationships.

They're a pleasure to coach.

Hynes is 409-333-87 with Minnesota, the Nashville Predators (2019-23) and New Jersey Devils (2015-19).

The Wild open the regular season at Nashville on Oct. 1.

"I would say over the last couple years, it’s a great organization to be in. The way that we’re treated," Hynes said.

"Getting to know the players and the team, it's an awesome group to coach. So as a coach, you're hoping that you can continue to build with what’s going on because of I think the environment that's here.

To coach the group of players that we have, for me it's exciting. I really like the group.

I'm excited to get started this year, and hopefully we can continue to push each other and push ourselves to a new level.
