The Daily: Who to Watch at NHL Prospect Tournament; What Waddell Learned from Larkin Messiness

If you are looking for respite from the frustration of the Detroit Red Wings slow-moving search for Steve Yzerman’s replacement, you can go online this weekend to watch live streaming of Detroit’s top prospects playing in the NHL Prospects Tournament.

The Red Wings are streaming all of their games on DetroitRedWings.com, free to watch in Detroit’s television territory (All of Michigan and Lucas County, Ohio.)

The Red Wings play the Stars on Saturday at 6:30 p.m at Little Caesars Arena., the Penguins Sunday at 7 p.m. and the Blue Jackets on Tuesday, Sept.

15 at 2 p.m.

1.Trey Augustine, Detroit’s new goalie of the future, is on Detroit’s roster. The former Michigan State standout played two games for the Grand Rapids Griffins at the end of last season.

2. Skilled forward Theo Rochette, a Swiss League standout, was signed by Detroit this offseason.

The 24-year-old Quebec native netted 22 goals in 46 games for Lausanne HC

3. Twin brothers Liam and Markus Ruck will play for the Pittsburgh Penguins in the tournament.

The Pens drafted Liam in the first round and Markus in the second. Each player registered more than 100 points last season in the Western Hockey League.

4. Dallas forward Charlie Paquette is playing in this tournament for a third time.

He played as a Red Wings invitee in 2024 and then was drafted by Dallas in the seventh round in 2025. He played for the Stars in last year’s event.

He’s back with the Stars this year, trying to prove he deserves to be signed.

5. Former University of Michigan forward Josh Eernisse is playing for Columbus.

He recently signed with the Blue Jackets as a college free agent. He’s 6-2, 217.

Zach Werenski eventually told the Blue Jackets he didn’t want to be traded. But Columbus GM Don Waddell suggested on a recent podcast that the Dylan Larkin situation would have influenced his thinking about Werenski’s situation.

“If he only gave us two or three places that would have ended the conversation because we saw what happened in another city,” said Detroit native Waddell.
