The Daily: Red Wings GM Search Won’t be Short; Ticket Sales Started

The Red Wings haven’t quite been without a general manager for a month yet, but as of right now, Hockeytown doesn’t have anyone sitting in the executive chair. As we sit just over a month out from hockey activities resuming at the professional level after Steve Yzerman’s abrupt departure, the Red Wings have been quiet as ever, with few hints as to what direction the franchise plans to head in next.

This late in the offseason, most moves being made are about retention. It’s unlikely the Red Wings organization resolves the issue anytime soon.

However, the Red Wings aren’t alone at the the moment being without a true captain to the ship, with the Colorado Avalanche operating under former general manager and current President of Hockey Operations Joe Sakic.

The Avs parted ways with Chris MacFarland earlier this offseason as he became the general manager and president in Nashville, and have been near silent in the following months when it comes to their search. If that’s anything to go by for the Red Wings this late in the offseason, they may very well be competing with the Avs in the next hiring cycle for a new general manager.

In the meanwhile, the Red Wings have begun single-game ticket sales for Little Ceasar’s Arena.

For the moment, the most expensive game to go to is the Red Wings March 20 matchup with the Canadiens, with a get in price starting at $96 on the online retailer TickPick. The cheapest get-in price games are Detroit’s home matchups with the two Pennsylvania based teams, the Penguins and Flyers, at $23 for both.

The Red Wings home opener on Oct. 2 against the New York Rangers currently sits at a starting price of $53 at the time of this writing.

The Red Wings ECHL affiliate, the Toledo Walleye, has been busy over the past week, signing a flurry of players that may very well end up spending time in Grand Rapids if the end of last season is anything to go by. The Walleye signed forward Jason Wilms alongside defensemen Jack Duff and Campbell Cichosz, while the Griffins signed netminder Johnathan Lemieux to a two-way contract.

Toledo’s social media team teased that the team isn’t done announcing new pieces for the team this week, though whether that will be a new player will have to be determined later today.
