After beating the San Jose Sharks at home in the shootout, the Detroit Red Wings hoped to carry that success on the road and get their third straight win, however, the Seattle Kraken would reverse fortunes on the Red Wings, taking a 4-3 shootout victory last night in their home barn at Climate Pledge Arena.
The Red Wings, who were down 3-0 halfway through the period, managed to tie things in regulation with just 16 seconds left thanks to goals from Viktor Arvidsson, Lucas Raymond, and Alex DeBrincat to force overtime and keep their points streak, which started after their last loss to Seattle, alive. Ultimately, however, the Red Wings were unable to repeat the same magic and Bobby McMann buried the game decider in the fourth frame of the shootout.

As the team faces down three more games on the road through Western Canada they’ll be glad to have it. The Red Wings will face off against the Vancouver Canucks, Calgary Flames, and the Edmonton Oilers over the course of the next week, with the Oilers currently being led on-ice with a dominant 26 point start to the season for Connor McDavid through the first nine games of the year.

The Oilers, under former Red Wings head coach Mike Babcock are 7-1-1 and have a +14 goal differential so far on the year, while the Canucks (2-8-1) and Flames (2-6-0) have had decidedly less successful starts to their seasons.
Red Wings Extra
Young defenseman Anton Johansson has taken a lot of people, both on and off-ice by surprise this year with his play. None more so apparently than Vince Dunn, who last night seemed unaware or unprepared for the power behind Johansson’s attempt to dump the puck in and found his stick flying out of his hand early in last night’s matchup.
Red Wings coach Todd McLellan joked before the game that winger Lucas Raymond may have been gripping his stick too tight in pursuit of his first goal, which did come that night, however by the looks of things Dunn may want to take notes about Raymond’s stick handling skills.
