The Detroit Red Wings general manager search continues on with no end in sight, though for Red Wings fans there was at least a sign of life from the franchise, with forward Alex DeBrincat speaking with NHL.com in an interview that was published early yesterday morning.
DeBrincat spoke of his desire to continue playing in Detroit, even amidst these trying times with the franchise. Of course, DeBrincat did also have to address the elephant in the room with Dylan Larkin’s trade request still hanging over the franchise.
The feisty winger offered that the team was better with their captain on ice, but knows that Larkin’s relationship with the fans isn’t the same as the one he has with the teammates he spends his time on-ice with. As for losing general manager Steve Yzerman, DeBrincat views the chaos as an opportunity to find clarity and focus on improvements that can be made by the roster on ice.

For the Minnesota Wild, Quinn Hughes tour of indifference continues, with the eldest Hughes’ brother telling the media that he’s in no rush to sign an extension in the Twin Cities. Hughes is in line for a significant pay bump, especially after Cale Makar’s record setting contract extension at the end of August.
However, the former Canucks blueliner apparently isn’t quite ready to specifically commit himself to Minnesota, instead focusing on his summer training and the anticipation of the upcoming season.
‘As we get going here I’m sure it’ll heat up, but I don’t feel backed up against a wall where I have to sign before camp.’ Said Hughes.
