At the end of last season, Marat Khusnutdinov said Boston feels like home, and just a few months later, the Boston Bruins gave him three more years to call it that.

On Wednesday afternoon, the Bruins announced they have signed Marat Khusnutdinov to a three-year extension worth $11.85 million. His deal kicks in at the start of the 2027-28 season and carries an average annual value (AAV) of $3.95 million until the conclusion of the 2029-30 season.

Khusnutdinov will be an unrestricted free agent when the contract expires in 2030. His contract does not include any trade protection, and he is set to make $1.5 million in signing bonuses in 2027-28 and $500,000 in 2028-29, according to PuckPedia.

ESPN’s Kevin Weekes reported that the Bruins and Khusnutdinov were “closing in on a multi-year extension” on Tuesday afternoon. Emily Kaplan reported the three-year deal and $3.95 million cap hit on Wednesday.

Khusnutdinov, 24, has established himself as an important piece in the Bruins’ forward group since arriving in March 2025. He made the roster out of training camp last season, and after rotating in and out of the lineup as a healthy scratch, he played in the last 77 games of the regular season.

The Moscow, Russia, native finished with 33 points (15-18–33) last season, and he already has five (2-3–5) through 10 games of the 2026-27 season. Khusnutdinov has dressed for 178 career NHL games with the Bruins (105) and Minnesota Wild (73).

He carved out a third-line winger role last season but established himself as an option higher up the lineup. Marco Sturm frequently moved him into the top-six, including a stint on the first line alongside David Pastrnak.

He opened this season on the Bruins’ kids line alongside Minten and James Hagens, and he is currently skating with Minten on the Bruins’ second line, as well as averaging north of two minutes a night on the penalty kill.

Khusnutdinov landed in Boston after a March 2025 trade that sent Justin Brazeau to Minnesota the night before the deadline. Jakub Lauko came back to Boston in the trade but was not hit with a qualifying offer and signed in Czechia.

Brazeau only played 19 games for the Wild with an average ice time of 8:33 and is now in the final year of a two-year deal in Pittsburgh.

The Wild drafted Khusnutdinov in the second round of the 2020 NHL Draft (No. 37). He moved to North America during the 2023-24 season and made his NHL debut on March 14, 2024.
