Dan Rosen of NHL.com was at New York Rangers’ practice today and saw newly signed James Reimer as the first goaltender off the ice, which could indicate that he’s making his season and New York debut against the Kings. No official announcement on a starter has been made yet.

Remier signed a one-year, $850K contract, having been released from his professional tryout contract with the AHL’s Hartford Wolf Pack on Sunday morning. He played in his first game with Hartford on Friday, posting a 35-save shutout win over the Providence Bruins.

Two days later, the 38-year-old will sign into his 17th NHL season.

The Rangers are the ninth club of his NHL career, which ties the NHL record for most teams played for by a goaltender, along with Cam Talbot. His presence will help relieve the 24-year-old Dylan Garand of his heavy workload since Igor Shesterkin’s season-ending injury.

Garand, a rookie, has recorded a 4-4-1 record and .900 Sv% in nine appearances this season.

A lot happened at Capitals practice, and Tom Gulitti covered all that occurred today. Jack St. Ivany, whom the Caps claimed off waivers out of Winnipeg, was skating at practice.

St. Ivany has played in four games so far this season, while averaging a career-low 13:31 per night. The 27-year-old is now up to 57 career NHL appearances over parts of four seasons, with the rest of his time coming with Pittsburgh.

He has nine assists along with 68 blocks and 122 hits in 15:30 per contest of playing time.

Along with that, defenseman Jakob Chychrun left practice; the reasoning for the exit is unknown, but Chychrun returned wearing regular clothes to watch the remainder of it. It was later confirmed by Tarik El-Bashir of Monument Sports Network that this was a case of a maintenance day for Chychrun and that he could skate in practice tomorrow, according to Coach Carbery.

Alexander Nikishin, who signed a one-year, $3MM deal to remain a Hurricane despite his trade request over the summer, is not practicing with the NHL roster just yet, per Walt Ruff. Nikishin, who scored 11 goals and 33 points in his rookie NHL season last year, playing slightly above 18 minutes a night, might be a conditioning stint candidate for AHL Chicago, the Hurricanes’ affiliate.

The 24-year-old defenseman gained a lot of experience last season en route to winning a Stanley Cup, but has carried his holdout for over a month into the NHL season now. As a result, it might be best case scenario not to rush him into NHL games, considering all the hockey he’s missed.

Veteran forward Taylor Hall skated at Hurricanes practice on Monday in a regular practice. Hall had been out during the Canes road trip due to an upper-body injury that placed him on injured reserve, but was skating on a line with Jordan Martinook and recent returnee Seth Jarvis, who has two goals for three points in three games.

Boston visits the Lenovo Center tomorrow to face Carolina.
