The Toronto Maple Leafs are down a depth defenceman.
Marshall Rifai is heading to the injured list with a lower-body injury, the Maple Leafs announced after their win over the New York Rangers on Thursday. He is considered week-to-week.
Rifai did not play in the Rangers game but did play on Tuesday against the Columbus Blue Jackets, when he scored his first NHL goal.
The 28-year-old has appeared in two games this season and five total in his NHL career.
The Toronto blueline was also dealt another injury blow on Thursday, as defenceman Nick Blankenburg exited in a 5-4 win over the New York Rangers and wasn't able to finish the game.
There was no update on his status after the game.
Blankenburg, 28, has one goal in six games with Toronto this season.
The Maple Leafs return to the ice Saturday against the Edmonton Oilers on Saturday Night Hockey (7 p.m. ET/ 5 p.m.
MT on Sportsnet and Sportsnet+).
