The Tampa Bay Lightning say they have no intention of trading their disgruntled MVP.

Lightning general manager Julien Brisebois released a statement on Friday night after Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman reported that Nikita Kucherov had informed the team that he would not be re-signing and would prefer a trade.

"We are aware of the media reports regarding the future of Nikita Kucherov with the Lightning," the statement from Brisebois reads."We unequivocally have no intention of trading Nikita."

Kucherov, 33, is in the final year of an eight-year, $76-million contract and will be an unrestricted free agent on July 1.

The two-time Hart Trophy winner is coming off a season in which he scored 44 goals and 130 points. This season, he has four goals and 15 points in 12 games.
