According to multiple sources, the Detroit Red Wings were informed Wednesday night that Dylan Larkin made the decision to sit out until he is traded.
Those same sources indicated Larkin felt he had done right by them playing through his trade request, but “had enough” and it is time for the move to happen.
The Red Wings have made it very clear they have a certain bar that must be leaped for anyone to acquire Larkin, but it’s clear he wants to give this a tush-push over the goal line.
Head coach Todd McLellan said Thursday morning Larkin wouldn’t play Thursday night against Chicago, and that interim GM Shawn Horcoff would address the situation. The Red Wings are expected to release a statement sometime Thursday.
Sources indicate that Larkin’s agent, Pat Brisson, flew to Detroit this week to meet with Larkin face-to-face after the team’s recent road trip. That’s when the decision was made to take this step.
