The new GM had little choice after the Leafs crashed in what was Craig Berube’s second and last season behind the bench, finishing out of the playoffs for the first time since 2016. And it wasn’t close: Not only did the Leafs settle into last place in the Atlantic Division, they were 28th in the overall National Hockey League standings, recording more points than only Calgary, the New York Rangers, Chicago and Vancouver.
