Former Detroit Red Wings forward Ville Leino is losing his shirt because he’s not selling enough shirts.
The Finnish website Ilta-Sanomat reports that Leino’s clothing company Billebeino is in deep financial trouble. The company lost 455,000 Euros (about $526,000) in 2025.
Billebeino has been steadily losing money since 2022.
In the past three years, the company’s sales have fallen by 64.2%. In the past year, sales plummeted by 49.2%.
Billebeino applied for corporate restructuring in 2025. Leino founded the company in 2014.
He played 55 games for the Red Wings from 2008-10, producing 9-7-16 totals. Leino also played in the NHL with the Philadelphia Flyers and Buffalo Sabres.
He reached the Stanley Cup final with the Flyers in 2010, posting 21 points in 19 playoff games that spring.
Former Red Wings to Participate in Chara Farewell
There will be an official on-ice farewell for Hockey Hall of Famer Zdeno Chara on Aug. 21 in Trencin, Slovakia.
Zee’s Final Shift will feature a litany of current and former NHL stars, including Jaromir Jagr, Ray Bourque, David Pastrnak, and Brad Marchand.
Three former Red Wings players are also participating in the game. They are forwards Marian Hossa and Thomas Vanek, and defenseman Aaron Ward.
Zetterberg Named to Swedish All-Star Squad
The Swedish website Hockey Sverige has been selecting all-decade teams of Swedish NHLers. The most recent group covered the decade from 2010-19.
Former Red Wings captain Henrik Zetterberg was one of the forwards chosen to the six-player team.
Gettinger Getting Further Away
Last summer, forward Tim Gettinger was coming off his second season with the AHL Grand Rapids Griffins on a Red Wings contract. He was a step away from playing in the NHL.
This season, Gettinger will be stepping on the ice with the Sheffield Steelers of the UK’s Elite Ice Hockey League. He played last season in the DEL, Germany’s top division, with Schwenninger Wild Wings.
Gettinger’s pro hockey resume includes 16 NHL games, all played for the New York Rangers.
Former Red Wings Prospect Looking For Work
The Red Wings signed Slovakian goalie Patrik Rybar as a free agent in 2018. He played 37 games for the Griffins in 2018-19, posting a 2.49 GAA, .908 save percentage and two shutouts.
Today, Rybar finds himself a puckstopper in search of a place to stop pucks. He was released Wednesday by the Shanghai Dragons of Russia’s KHL.
Earlier this summer, the Dragons signed former Red Wings Martin Frk, Givani Smith, and Gemel Smith. They also named Russian Five icon Vyacheslav Kozlov an assistant coach.
