David Jiricek, who is entering this season on the first year of a two-year, $1.5MM AAV contract, has faith from Flyers management. According to Kevin Kurz, Jiricek recently spoke to the team’s brass, and the message was clear as day;
We don’t have many guys like you here, so shoot the puck. That’s maybe why I am in Philly,” Jiricek said.
“I try to make it work. I try to shoot as much as I can right now, and shoot everything — if I have a pass for one-timers, I’m going to shoot it.”
The defenseman ended last year seeing the majority of his time taken up in the AHL between the Iowa Wild and Lehigh Valley Phantoms, as he was traded from Minnesota to Philadelphia. In 2025-26, he scored just 4 goals but registered 23 points in 39 AHL games.
He had struggled to make an impact in Minnesota’s system, but all signs point to him making the Flyers’ opening night roster. He lost his waiver-exempt status on July 1.
Training camp opens on Sept. 17 for Philadelphia.

The Philadelphia Flyers will soon have a new home, but they won’t move there, not until the end of the decade. Announced this morning via a press release, the Flyers, in partnership with the NBA’s 76ers, unveiled a plan for a new arena.
This will be in the Spectrum’s historic grounds in South Philadelphia, scheduled to be open for the 2030 season, which is also the inaugural season for a new WNBA team in Philadelphia. Comcast will own the naming rights of the new arena to be formally named at a later date.
The arena’s architecture was inspired by the shape of the old Spectrum arena, which was home to the ‘Broad Street Bullies’ Flyers for nearly three decades. The exterior’s objective is to have a modern, instantly recognizable look as a new city landmark.
This is the largest fully privately funded project in the city’s history. They project that the new arena will create nearly 15,000 jobs and generate nearly $6 billion in revenue over the next 10 years
Kurz also highlighted Cole Knuble as a player to watch out for in training camp. The 22-year-old joined the AHL Phantoms late last season, playing just seven games after three seasons with Notre Dame in the NCAA.
There, he tallied 30 goals for 90 points across 109 games in college and was notable as a standout during Flyers development camp earlier this summer. He was originally a fourth-round pick in 2023 and is known as a versatile forward.
