The Calgary Flames have a few fires to put out.

The team is dealing with a few injuries currently, according to Pat Steinberg. They announced that they have recalled forward William Stromgren and goaltender Arsenii Sergeev from the AHL Wranglers to the big club.

These moves come retroactively to the injuries of Brennan Othmann, who is day-to-day, and Devin Cooley.

The goaltender Cooley has been placed on injured reserve with a lower-body injury. The 29-year-old is 4-3-0 this season, posting a 2.69 goals against average and a .914 save percentage, ranking 10th among NHL goalies.

He has also posted a 2.2 goals saved above expected, good for 22nd among league goaltenders.

Stromgren, a former 2nd-round pick in 2021, has been tremendously productive in his time in the AHL. The 23-year-old has tallied 134 points across 217 games with the Wranglers in his five seasons with them.

Last season, Stromgren received three games in the NHL coming off nearly topping his 2024-25 career high of 49 points with 47 in 66 games during the 2025-26 campaign. Even then, this season, the 6-foot-4 Swede continues to prove his top-line talent at a point-per-game scoring pace through 11 games to start 2026-27.

Perhaps in Othmann’s absence, some offense can be produced, as he’s known as a player who likes to create his own looks.

Sergeev also has batted above his average in between the pipes. Through six games in 2026-27, the former 7th-round pick has posted a .907 save percentage and a 2.86 goals against average in the AHL this season, a good start above the AHL numbers he had last season, his first between the AHL and ECHL.

He played in one game for the Flames in 2025-26, stopping 28 shots to will them to a 3-1 win over the Kings. Sergeev notably played his college hockey at UConn and Penn State.

Further to this, forward Connor Zary had knee surgery and is considered week-to-week. The 25-year-old, who carries a $3.775MM AAV on his deal for two more seasons, was recently placed on waivers and sent down to the Flames’ AHL affiliate, where he has scored four points in six games.

The former first-round pick had suddenly become a very intriguing option to pick up on the waiver wire. Having said that, Zary was left alone because of that annual payment that teams weren’t willing to take on initially.
