The Boston Bruins’ series of front office changes concluded on Saturday.
Bruins assistant general manager Evan Gold has officially departed the organization. The Bruins announced the change on July 14, effective Saturday, August 1, along with several front office hires.
Gold “will be departing the organization to pursue other opportunities in the National Hockey League,” the Bruins said in a July press release. On Friday, Stefen Rosner reported that Gold is expected to join the Islanders, following up on an earlier Mark Divver report that identified Long Island as a likely landing spot.
Gold, 46, joined the Bruins in 2015 as the Director of Legal Affairs, a position he held throughout his tenure in Boston. The Bruins named Gold an assistant general manager ahead of the 2019-20 season. In March 2023, he was named the GM of the Providence Bruins and served in that role for three seasons.
Gold worked alongside general manager Don Sweeney with a focus on roster planning, contract negotiations, as well as salary cap analysis and CBA compliance. He has an MBA and a law degree from the University of Toronto.
This summer, Gold was in the running for a pair of GM jobs in Canada. He was a finalist for the opening in Vancouver, but lost to Ryan Johnson. He was also one of the finalists for the Maple Leafs’ job, but they opted for John Chayka.
Before his time with the Bruins, Gold worked with the Washington Capitals. He started as an intern and worked his way up the ranks, eventually becoming a hockey operations assistant.
On Long Island, Mathieu Darche has a full cabinet. Chris Lamoriello, Steve Pellegrini, and Ryan Bowness are all assistant general managers working for the Islanders. Bowness is the only Darche hire, and the contracts on the first two are expiring after this season, according to Rosner.
Gold is not the only Bruins assistant general manager to depart the organization “to pursue other opportunities in the National Hockey League.” Jamie Langenbrunner left on May 14 for the same reason and landed in Nashville as a special assistant to the general manager.
The Bruins hired Alex Gimenez as the Director of Hockey Operations: CBA, a newly created role, and he will take the bulk of Gold’s workload. Gimenez will focus on “contract negotiations, salary cap management, CBA compliance, and player acquisition strategy.”
The Bruins also promoted Jeremy Rogalski and Dennis Bonvie to assistant general managers, and Kevyn Adams joined the organization as a senior advisor to the general manager.
