The New Jersey Devils are betting big on their newest forward.

The Devils and Luke Evangelista agreed to terms on a five-year, $36.25 million contract extension late Tuesday night. The new contract, which begins in 2027-28 and carries a $7.25 million AAV, is frontloaded and will pay Evangelista in this way:

The Devils acquired Evangelista from the Predators on Sept. 1 for two draft picks.

The 24-year-old is coming off his fourth NHL season in which he had 12 goals and 56 points, a career-high.

The Toronto native has one year remaining on a two-year contract with a $3 million AAV.
