On the ice, the Penguins canceled practice, and so PHN delivered five thoughts from the road trip. They were four bad thoughts and observations, and one that was encouraging.
Elsewhere in the Daily, the Ottawa fans let Brady Tkachuk have it for the full 60 minutes Wednesday. Some of the Ottawa players had a few things to say to him on the ice, too.
There are conflicting reports on Dylan Larkin. The NHL trade rumors suggest he expanded his list to get out of Detroit, while a Red Wings exec says they’ve kissed and made up.
In more NHL trade chatter, there are a half dozen teams that have checked in on Alexander Nikishin, but no dice yet. It’s a fun day in the Daily.
Pittsburgh Penguins Pittsburgh Hockey Now: From coach Dan Muse, the full update on Ben Kindel. And from the road, five thoughts.
What does Muse mean when he says part of the problem is structural? We got into that with a tough, sometimes brutal, but honest takedown of the current state of the team.
And a couple of other observations and inside nuggets from the Penguins team. NHL Trade Rumors, News, & NHN NHLtraderumors.me: All better now?
Jimmy Devellano is a character worth knowing in the hockey world. From his time in the Islanders org to being a semi-retired figure in the Detroit Red Wings organization, he’s been there and done that.
Jimmy told a Detroit podcast that Larkin and the Red Wings have kissed and made up. I’ve had dinner with Jimmy at arenas a couple of times, and I’m not sure I needed to say three words.
He’s one of the old-school cats who keeps the game grounded, and when he holds court, you just listen. Detroit Hockey Now: Devellano’s side is contradicted by the report that Larkin has expanded his trade list to 10 teams.
Here’s what we know about Larkin’s trade wish. My .02 is that I hope Larkin stays in Detroit.
They need him badly, and I’m put off by most of Team USA suddenly asking for trades after their gold medal performance. It’s not a good look for American hockey.
And it’s a terrible example. The NHL is a privilege, and more players should remember that.
The Fourth Period: Take it with a little salt because the language is couched. Alexander Nikishin wants between $56 million and $63 million, or maybe just $45 million on a shorter deal, and six teams have called.
Sportsnet: Oh, those fans were wild, and it was AWESOME. Ottawa let Brady Tkachuk have it.
Boos. Jeers.
Chants of “Traitor,” “Brady sucks,” and “You can’t read,” rained down. There were no hot mic moments (yet), but it surely appeared the Ottawa Senators had a few things to say to their former captain, too.
Ottawa spanked Florida and pounded Tkachuk in a big win. Just an incredible game.
Florida Hockey Now: Brady Tkachuk answered in the Panthers postgame. TSN: Is 200 points possible for Connor McDavid?
He’s on a Mario pace right now, and Canada is asking if McDavid can get to Mario and Gretzky levels.
