Another night, another milestone for Connor McDavid.
The Edmonton Oilers star became just the fourth player in NHL history to record 30 points in the first 10 games of the season when he notched his fourth point of the evening in the third period against the Carolina Hurricanes.
The assist on Leon Draisaitl's power-play goal was his third of the night, giving McDavid 23 for the season.
His goal earlier in the night was his seventh of the campaign. McDavid then potted his eighth with less than two minutes remaining to tie the game at 5-5.
"What do you want me to say? It's not real.
He's maybe the greatest player to ever play, in my books probably from what I've seen certainly," Draisaitl said after the Oilers' 6-5 shootout win.
"Pleasure to share the ice with him, pleasure to learn from him every day. He deserves everything."
McDavid's third five-point game of 2026-27 puts him on an early pace for 260 points this season.
Wayne Gretzky and Mike Bossy both had 30 points in the first 10 games of 1984-85, while Mario Lemieux accomplished the feat three times (1988-89, 1992-93 and 1995-96).
McDavid, 29, also joined Lemieux as the only two players in league history to have three five-point outings in the first 10 games of a season.
"I think when he was 24, he was just as flashy, just as fast, but there's little details that maybe weren't as great," Draisaitl said. "Now his game is at complete as it gets and he hasn't lost a step offensively.
You really just run out of words. No pun intended, but I'll leave it at that.
Next up, the red-hot McDavid squares off with Auston Matthews on Saturday Night Hockey when the Oilers host the Toronto Maple Leafs (Sportsnet, Sportsnet+, 7 p.m. ET / 5 p.m.
MT).
