Matt Poitras is sticking around with the Boston Bruins.
On the day the Bruins report for training camp, the team announced that the two sides have agreed on a one-year, two-way deal worth $850,000. Poitras was in Boston participating in captains’ practices and is now expected to report to training camp when the Bruins take the ice on Thursday.

Poitras, 22, spent the majority of the 2025-26 season with the Providence Bruins. He posted 44 points (13-31–44) in 69 games, which ranked fifth on the team.
All four players who ranked ahead of Poitras are no longer with the Bruins organization.
His four points (1-3–4) in four playoff games also led the P-Bruins, but were not enough to help them knock off the Springfield Thunderbirds in the Atlantic Division semifinal.
Poitras also dressed for three NHL games last season and scored his lone goal of the season in the Bruins’ Stadium Series loss against the Tampa Bay Lightning.
Poitras has 27 points (7-20–27) in 69 career NHL games, all with the Bruins. He played in 33 games with Boston in each of his first two seasons before dressing for just three in his third.
Now entering his fourth year with the Bruins, Poitras is still searching for a full-time spot in the NHL. New Providence head coach Trent Whitfield spoke highly of Poitras and his opportunity in Boston during his introductory press conference.
“You know, Potsy’s had a little bit different of a path. But again, I think Potsy really did a good job last year.
I think it was hard,” Whitfield said. “We [had] a lot of good, hard conversations with him just to get his mindset in a good spot.
It’s always just going to be a matter of time with Matt. He’s a great kid, really talented player.
I’m real excited for his opportunity to come this year and to really make his mark up there in Boston.”
The Bruins drafted Poitras in the second round of the 2022 NHL Draft (No. 54). He made his debut on October 11, 2023 against the Chicago Blackhawks.
