Jeremy Swayman made 21 saves in his seventh win of the season.

For the second straight game, Casey Mittelstadt opened the scoring. The third line was all over Alex Nedeljkovic, who could not cover or get a hold of the puck.

Elias Lindholm poked it through the crease to Mittelstadt, and he beat Nedeljkovic to give the Bruins a 1-0 lead 3:08 into the game.

The goal marked Mittelstadt’s 100th career NHL goal.

Morgan Geekie took a slashing penalty, sending the Sharks’ power play onto the ice. Braintree native Adam Gaudette played the puck across the ice to Michael Misa, who tied the game just 2:46 after Mittelstadt’s goal.

The tie was not broken until the 8:20 mark of the second period. Fraser Minten played the puck to Morgan Geekie just outside of the blue paint, and he dropped the puck for Marat Khusnutdinov.

The 24-year-old pulled it to his backhand and beat Nedeljkovic glove-side to reclaim the lead.

Kiefer Sherwood tied the game shorthanded. He intercepted a pass from Elias Lindholm intended for Pavel Zacha and approached Swayman all alone.

Sherwood beat Swayman high, tying the game 5:14 after Khusnutdinov’s goal.

Mark Kastelic delivered a massive hit on San Jose’s Michael Kesselring, who got up and dropped the gloves with the 6-foot-4 winger. Kastelic landed a series of uppercuts before Kesselring connected twice.

Kastelic ended up with the takedown, and Kesselring was not happy with it on his way to the penalty box.

Kastelic received a two-minute minor for boarding, along with his five for fighting. Kesselring sat two minutes for roughing and five more for the fight.

The fighting did not stop there. Tanner Jeannot dropped the gloves for a bout with Zack Ostapchuk just 2:38 into the third.

Jeannot got the takedown, landing three heavy rights before Ostapchuk hit the ice.

Elias Lindholm took a slashing penalty shortly after the fight, sending the Sharks to their fourth power play of the night. Old friend Dmitry Orlov teed up a slap shot from 54 feet out and beat Swayman on the power play to give the Sharks their first lead of the night.

The Bruins played from behind for the first time all night, but not for long. JJ Peterka played a cross-ice feed to David Pastrnak, who had just gotten out of the penalty box.

Pastrnak uncorked a shot and beat Nedeljkovic blocker-side to tie the game 4:24 after the Sharks took a lead.

James Hagens wasted no time breaking the tie. Elias Lindholm moved in on Nedeljkovic, who poked the puck, and Hagens swooped in to grab the rebound.

He pushed it through Nedeljkovic’s equipment for his fourth goal of the season, coming just 40 seconds after Pastrnak’s tying goal.

Sharks defenseman Nolan Allen caught Morgan Geekie with a high stick and went to the box for a four-minute double minor. On the power play, JJ Peterka fed it to Fraser Minten, who beat Nedeljkovic from the net front to further the Bruins’ lead.

James Hagens took a tripping minor during the Bruins’ double-minor, sending the game to a 4-on-4 for 1:48. On the 4-on-4, Macklin Celebrini, Jacob Trouba, and Lexington native Will Smith connected, and Smith beat Swayman to make it a one-goal game.

The Sharks pulled Nedeljkovic with 1:45 to play and used their timeout with 62 seconds on the clock.

Will Borgen added his second empty-net goal of the season with 28 seconds to play.

The Bruins have Sunday off and will return to the practice rink in Brighton on Monday morning. They will travel to North Carolina after practice and play the Carolina Hurricanes on Tuesday.
