The Colorado Avalanche will be down a man on their blue line.

Defenceman Josh Manson is expected to miss approximately eight weeks after suffering an ankle injury, head coach Jared Bednar told reporters Friday.

Manson suffered the injury in Wednesday's game against the New Jersey Devils. He exited the game after an awkward fall in the first period and did not return, playing only 4:06 of ice time in the 5-2 win.

The 35-year-old has had a quiet start to the year, tallying one goal and three assists in 13 games while playing an average of 14:59 of ice time, a career low for the 13-year veteran.

Heading into Friday's action, the Avalanche sit third in the Central Division with a 7-5-1 record. Their next game is against the Calgary Flames on Saturday night (Sportsnet and Sportsnet+ at 10 p.m.

ET / 7 p.m. PT).
