The Ottawa Senators will be without their starting netminder for some time. According to TSN’s Claire Hanna, goaltender Linus Ullmark will miss the next week or two with a lower-body ailment.

On Thursday, the Senators placed Ullmark on the injured reserve.

Any time without Ullmark hurts Ottawa. The Swedish netminder has gotten off to an inspired start this season, managing a 7-1-0 record in eight games with a .945 SV% and 1.33 GAA.

According to MoneyPuck, he ranks second in Goals Saved Above Expected (8.4), just behind Jake Oettinger (10.4).

The Senators will utilize the tandem of Samuel Ersson and Jonas Johansson for now. Ersson is the only one of the duo who has played for Ottawa this season so far.

He has a 0-3-0 record in three games with a .835 SV% and 4.59 GAA.

Additional notes from the Atlantic Division:

Fortunately, it’s not all bad news on the injury front in Ottawa. Earlier today, Bruce Garrioch of The Ottawa Citizen reported that captain Thomas Chabot will join the Senators for their upcoming road trip.

Chabot has been nursing an upper-body injury since Ottawa’s October 17th matchup against the Philadelphia Flyers. The 11-year veteran has scored one goal and five points in nine games this season.

Ahead of tonight’s contest against the Utah Mammoth, the Tampa Bay Lightning announced that defenseman Victor Hedman would miss the game with a lower-body injury. Fortunately, it does not appear to be a long-term issue for the captain.

Hedman left Tampa Bay’s latest game after just one shift in the second period.
