The Florida Panthers will be without veteran winger Brad Marchand through October. After personally sharing that he would miss training camp a month ago, the Panthers announced that Marchand would take the first month of the regular season to recover after undergoing surgery in August.
Marchand won’t be the only forward missing from the Panthers’ lineup at the start of the season. Florida also announced that bottom-six forward Jonah Gadjovich, who underwent neck surgery in November of last season, remains out indefinitely.
Speaking on his recovery, head coach Paul Maurice said, “We’re still looking at options and searching for some answers on this.”
Given how the 2025-26 season played out, this isn’t unfamiliar territory for the Panthers organization. Florida dealt with several injuries to its forward corps last season, eliminating any chance of the team reaching its fourth consecutive Stanley Cup Final.
Hoping for better health this season, the Panthers are already off to a bad start.

Last postseason, Ottawa Senators defenseman Artem Zub suffered a lower-body injury in Game 1 of Round One against the Carolina Hurricanes, an injury he’s still recovering from. Although he will miss the first two weeks of training camp, General Manager Steve Staios (via TSN’s Claire Hanna) confirmed that Zub avoided surgery for the lower-body ailment.
Still, given that he had all offseason to recover and remains out during training camp, the injury must have been more severe than previously believed.
Ahead of releasing their training camp roster, the Toronto Maple Leafs released multiple players from their amateur tryout agreements. According to a team announcement, the Maple Leafs have released netminder Sebastian Charvát, defenseman Matyáš Man, forward Parker Vaughan, and forward Nic Whitehead from their ATOs.
Additionally, Toronto returned four players to their Major Junior teams, instead of having them participate with the team throughout training camp. The Maple Leafs announced that they’ve returned defenseman Rylan Fellinger to the OHL’s Flint Firebirds, forward Brody Pepoy to the OHL’s Saginaw Spirit, netminder Patriks Plūmiņš to the QMJHL’s Chicoutimi Saguenéens, and forward Cooper Williams to the WHL’s Saskatoon Blades.
